"Every time we go over to check up on things, the music is playing," said Scott Moore, Senior Systems Integrator at Designer Audio, a systems integration company from Naples, Fla. "He uses it all the time."

Personal DJ

Scott is talking about the whole house audio/video (A/V) components that his company seamlessly integrated through the AMX® Landmark Control System. This classical 6,200 square foot Mediterranean-style residence is a nine-room haven for CD players, high definition satellite feeds, DVD players, digital video recorders and the latest music library management products from leading manufacturers such as Escient. If you're ever invited over for dinner or a weekend barbecue, prepare to bob your head to an eclectic sampling of pop, rock, adult contemporary and more. "(The homeowner) has more than 300 CDs," Moore said. "He has a wide range of musical tastes."

From The Ground, Up

A relationship with the builder sparked the homeowner's imagination when it came to experiencing the simplicity, convenience and luxury of one-touch AMX control for a variety of audio and video equipment. Designer Audio has a relationship with many of the local builders. Some time spent in the builder's model home led to this question: "Who made this possible?" The response: "Designer Audio." Soon afterward, the call was made and the installation process began. "He told us that he was interested in doing something similar to what was in the model home," Moore explained. "His home was in the construction phase when he contacted us, so we did the prewire and completed the final phases of the job a few months later. About 95 percent of our business starts with our pre-wiring the home." Needless to say, the homeowner was in good hands.

Always In Control

Familiar with AMX products and paying special attention to remain within the client's budget, Designer Audio outfitted the home with feature-intensive, yet economically-priced, AMX Dynamic Menu System (DMS) Keypads in every room, the outside patio and indoor pool lanai. The LCD menu on the DMS Keypad offers the homeowner numerous viewable options to adjust different environmental controls, including heating and air conditioning. In fact, individual CDs can be selected and activated at the touch of a button. For additional convenience, Designer Audio also included a wireless AMX ViewPoint® Touch Panel. The ViewPoint's infrared signal travels through walls, so the homeowner has the freedom to take control from anywhere, at any time. Consider this: You feel like a dip in the pool. You're waist deep, wading in the cool water, when you decide you'd like to hear some music. The DMS Keypad is mounted on the wall several feet away. Why dry off when you can simply take the ViewPoint and in a matter of seconds select your favorite track? Hidden rock speakers instantly fill the lanai with your favorite songs. Keep the handheld panel positioned at pool side and relax in style.

Music To Movies

It just so happens that the homeowner is a movie buff, as well as a golf enthusiast. Thankfully, he never has to change a tee time to accommodate a show on broadcast television or satellite. That's because Designer Audio programmed special macros on the ViewPoint to make recording on their TiVO or VCR extremely easy. What else, you ask? How about Designer Audio's decisions to list on the DMS LCD screen the couple's most watched channels, from CNN to ESPN, which can be viewed from any TV in the house. Indeed, this exceptional level of whole house audio and intuitive AMX control technology is, like in "The Sound of Music", perfectly orchestrated.
